ABOUT YOUR HBAA
MISSION STATEMENT
The HBAA stands to aid in the development of the goals of the Mission Statement of the Richard Ivey School of Business, foster the pride and character of the HBA student body, and serve to communicate, interact, and cooperate with HBA students and undergraduate business students across Canada and around the world.
WHO IS THE HBAA?
The HBAA is the student lead undergraduate council at Ivey. All HBAA members are student volunteers enrolled in the HBA program. The HBAA is made up of 6 elected executives, 35 appointed coordinators and 40 HBA1 representatives (5 per section for 8 sections). The executives are responsible for managing their portfolio and the coordinators within it. The HBA1 representatives are responsible for organizing and managing activities involving the members of their section. All members on the HBAA work towards upholding the Ivey student motto: Work Hard, Play Hard.
WHAT DOES THE HBAA DO?
The HBAA is responsible for all the student led initiatives at Ivey. The main undertakings of the HBAA fall under four main categories: academic, social, philanthropic, and communications. Under each of these categories are numerous different events, competitions, workshops, and clubs which students have the opportunity to get involved with.
To give some perspective into what the HBAA does here is a brief example of one of the biggest events every year – Orientation Week. O-Week is the first week at Ivey for every new HBA student. The week is four days of fun and team building events that introduce new students to each other, to the Ivey Community and to the HBA program. The week is kicked off with an opening gala which brings together all the Ivey stakeholders to celebrate the beginning of a new HBA class. The major events of the week are opening BBQ, Schmoozapalooza, Taste the Cup, Drum Cafe, and a trip to the beach. The week also includes academic sessions and career management workshops which acquaint you with the program and give you all the tools needed to succeed.
"To me, the HBAA is about a bringing together the amazing people who study at Ivey, and engaging students from all backgrounds and with all aspirations. The HBAA is about giving students a voice."
Connor Lyons, HBAA President 2012/2013
